Epoisses de Bourgogne is a cheese made in the village of Epoisses in the Burgundy region of France.
Epoisses is a pungent unpasteurised cow's milk cheese - powerful and luscious, a real cheese connoisseur's choice. Full flavoured with a soft oozy texture this cheese is washed in Marc de Bourgogne, a local alcohol helping it to become a sweet, complex, cheese full of character.
Originally made by the Cistercian Monks back in the 16th Century this cheese was made until the Second World War when production stopped until it was revived by an Epoisses resident !
