Mount Holdsworth Sauvignon Blanc 2014. This North Island Sauvignon marries the variety’s typical zesty, grassy aroma to real texture and succulence. Green apple and passion fruit flavours turn crisp and mineral on the finish. Alcohol content 13%. 100% Sauvignon Blanc grape.
Wairarapa lies at the southern end of the North Island, not far from the capital, Wellington. Having grown up in the shadow of its most famous sub-district, Martinborough, Wairarapa is now developing its own reputation for characterful, conscientiously made wines as well as outstanding value for money. Mount Holdsworth is an exclusive range produced for us by Matahiwi Estate, a family-owned winery in the heart of Wairarapa. All three varieties are sourced solely from the estate’s single 80-hectare vineyard, allowing experienced winemaker Jane Cooper to fine-tune every aspect of production from bud-break to bottling. Vineyard, this wine comes from two contrasting soil types: stony loam and hillside clay. Viticulture follows Sustainable Winegrowing guidelines, with cover crops substituting for pesticides and fertilisers. Intimate attention to detail governs decisions around canopy management and picking dates; yields are restricted to boost concentration.
